Messiah in the Tanakh

Quoting from the JPS 1917 Tanakh and the King James Version

“He was despised, and forsaken of men, A man of pains, and acquainted with disease, And as one from whom men hide their face: He was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:10-12)

“Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who did eat of my bread, Hath lifted up his heel against me.” (Psalm 41:10)

And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.” (Matthew 26:23) “Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.” (Mark 14:10)

“And I said unto them: ‘If ye think good, give me my hire’ … So they weighed for my hire thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said unto me: ‘Cast it into the treasury, the goodly price that I was prized at of them.’ And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them into the treasury, in the house of the Lord” (Zechariah 11:12-13)

Then one of the Twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.” (Matthew 26:14-16) ; “And he [Judas] cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. (Matthew 27:5)

“He was oppressed, though he humbled himself And opened not his mouth; As a lamb that is led to the slaughter, And as a sheep that before her shearers is dumb; Yea, he opened not his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:7)

But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.” (Mark 15:5)

“My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me, And art far from my help at the words of my cry?” (Psalm 22:2)

About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’, which means, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’” (Matthew 27:46)

“All they that see me laugh me to scorn; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head: ‘Let him commit himself unto the Lord! let Him rescue him; Let Him deliver him, seeing He delighteth in him.’” (Psalm 22:8-9)

In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. ‘He saved others,’ they said, ‘but he can’t save himself! He’s the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, I am the Son of God.’ In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.” (Matthew 27:41-44)

“My strength is dried up like a potsherd; And my tongue cleaveth to my throat; And Thou layest me in the dust of death.” (Psalm 22:16)

Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink.” (Matthew 27:48)

“I may count all my bones; They look and gloat over me. They part my garments among them, and for my vesture do they cast lots.” (Psalm 22:18-19)

When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.” (John 19:23)

“And I will pour upon the house of David, And upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, The spirit of grace and of supplication; And they shall look unto Me because they have thrust him through; And they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, And shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born” (Zechariah 12:10)

“For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, Not one of His bones shall be broken. And again another Scripture says, They shall look on Him whom they pierced..” (John 19:36-37)

“Who has believed our message? and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised, and rejected by men; a man of suffering, and acquainted with disease: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we didn’t respect him. Surely, he has borne our sickness and carried our suffering; yet we considered him plagued, struck by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our shalom was on him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted, he didn’t open his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is mute, so he didn’t open his mouth. By oppression and judgment, he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the disobedience of my people to whom the stroke was due? They made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore, will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” (Isaiah 53)
