Many skeptics dismiss the Bible as a book of fables written by men. In doing so, they show their lack of understanding of the nature of both man and God and how revelation from God comes forth to us through the human mind. For discussion’s sake, let us use the following definitions:
Body
The material part of a person subject to the
Laws of Nature in space-time.
Spirit
The non-material part of a person subject to the
Spirit of God in and beyond space-time.
Soul
Body and spirit operating together as
one person in space-time.
Now, imagine that you have a plastic ball with a small iron ball at its core. The plastic represents the physical body of a prophet, and the small iron ball inside the plastic ball represents the mind and spirit of the prophet that can respond to the Spirit of God, which transcends space-time.
Now suppose the plastic ball representing the prophet is placed on a sheet of plywood with an alphabet printed on it, and that the plastic ball has the ability to move around in any direction to pick letters of its own volition to form words. The result would essentially be the equivalent of manmade writing, an expression of the prophet’s free will.
Now suppose that a powerful magnet (representing the Spirit of God) is passed under the plywood out of sight of the plastic ball with its iron core, so that the force of magnetism of the magnet on the iron core causes the plastic ball to move to various letters and do so apart from the effort of the plastic ball itself but instead under the influence of the magnetic force of the magnet.
The latter action is the way God’s revelation was transmitted through the personality and mind of the ancient prophets who wrote the Bible. The “force of revelation” came from God, but it utilized the characteristics (personality, speech pattern, thought processes, etc.) of the prophet through which God’s revelation was introduced into our space-time existence.
That’s the way the Bible was written by God acting through the prophets of Israel, the result being that we can know the mind of God.
