Although they are not topics that normally come up in the exposition of prophecy and chronology featured on this website, a few visitors have asked me to comment on the matter of sexual conduct and marriage based on the teachings of the Bible. Here is my understanding of what the Holy Bible says about sexual conduct and marriage:
Sexual union between two individuals is permitted only within the framework of a biblical marriage.
Hebrews 13:4 – “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”
1 Corinthians 6:18 – “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.”
1 Corinthians 7:2 – “Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”
Exodus 20:14 – “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” (Part of the Ten Commandments)
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 – “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God.”
Biblical marriage is a physical and spiritual union between one male and one female.
Genesis 1:27-28 – “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.”
Genesis 2:24 – “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Matthew 19:4-6 – “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Jesus quoting Genesis)
Leviticus 18:22 – “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
Conclusion: The above brief outline covers everything a Christain who desires to be obedient to the Word of God really needs to know to answer the questions about Bible-based sexual conduct and Christian marriage that are being raised and discussed in many churches and among seeking individuals.
